Background:
As the son of a Formula 1 world champion - the Finnish driver, Keke Rosberg - Nico was exposed to racing for his whole life. Even so, he grew up in an entirely different background to that of his father, as he was born and raised in Germany, and does not even speak Finnish. His career was guided from the beginning by his father, who also served as the manager of Mika Hakkinen, another Finnish world champion. Nico started out by winning go-karting championships before moving to the lower formulas in Germany, where he won the Formula BMW ADAC title in 2002. He then won the international GP2 series in 2005.
His Career Thus Far:
In 2006 Nico joined his father's old team, Williams, where Keke won the world title in 1982. Nico made a huge impression in his first race in Formula 1 at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Although he spun at the start of the race and droppee to the back of the pack, it was his subsequent climb up to finish in seventh position and scoring two points that impressed. On top of that, he also set the fastest lap of the race.

Unfortunately, however, the rest of the season, although honorable for a rookie driver - and he was the youngest driver in the series - was marked by a number of beginners errors. In the end, his teammate, Mark Webber, scored more points than him. Even so, Nico had earned his place in Formula 1. In his second year in the sport, he outperformed Alexander Wurz, his new teammate, and he finished as high as fourth in the last race of the season, the Brazilian Grand Prix. He finished in ninth place in the drivers' series with 20 points.
Driving Style:
Although lightning fast, Nico has yet to show that he can exercise restraint when needed, and attack when needed. Precipitation to overtake another driver, or what is often called an excess of optimism, has played against him more than once.

Character:
Nico is a quiet, soft-spoken young man who does not appear overly impressed with the world of Formula 1 where his father had made his mark before him, yet nor does he look like a spoiled child receiving his due. He showed himself to be his own man in the lower formulas of racing, and has a low key intelligence that will serve him well as he develops his race craft. Nico, who speaks four languages, was accepted into the engineering program at university in England, but chose to race instead.
