Background:
Timo has had a slightly atypical career in that he started relatively late in competition, taking up kart racing only at 15 years old. But he learned quickly and two years later, in 2000, he won the Formula BMW Junior Cup. The following year he won the Formula BMW title and then followed that with a third place series finish in German F3 and the distinction of being rookie of the year. His career took another atypical swing when after finishing only fifth in the F3 Euro Series, but with three victories, he jumped immediately into a role as test driver at the Jordan team in 2004.
His Career Thus Far:
Timo was then called in to race for four races at the Jordan team in 2004, starting at the Canadian Grand Prix, and he even scored two points in that first race in F1. Then, however, he could not find a seat in Formula 1 for the following year.

Again his career took an atypical move as it looked as if not finding a drive in F1 that he would not pick up where he left off after F3 and continue the usual climb up the learning ladder towards F1. But even this he did in an atypical manner, going backwards as it were: In 2005 he moved to Champ Car, where he finished eighth in the series and finished as rookie of the year. Rather than staying there or moving from there to F1, Timo then moved back to Europe to a series that was lower on the rung in terms of the power of the cars, but still part of the usual ladder to F1. He joined GP2. And it was a good move: In 2006 he finished fourth, winning two races. In 2007, he won the series with five victories, and so found himself back in the running for Formula One. Ironically, he was already involved again as a BMW Sauber test driver, and his contract with that team required some negotiations to get out of in order to join Toyota as a full time driver.
Driving Style:
Timo, like anyone who wins the GP2 series, has excellent race craft and fighting spirit. GP2 is about racing, overtaking, keeping the car on the track and battling for position. Timo has also spent enough time testing in Formula 1 since 2004 to not have lost touch with the demands of an F1 car. With such recent experience in the GP2 cars, he will likely be at an advantage in F1 in 2008 as the series moves on to once again ridding itself of electronic drivers' aids like traction control.
Character:
Anyone who managed to reach Formula 1 by the age of 22, race in only four races and then be forced to return to a lower series...and then return again to F1 as a full time driver with a mid-grid team, is someone who has a strong character and an ability to take the blows, rebuild and attack again.

"I have been lucky enough to race and succeed in several different championships in my career but my goal has always been to become a full-time Formula 1 race driver," said Glock. "I believe this experience has made me stronger as a driver and as a person."
